Biscuits, coke, grinding software

"Nerds have always been mathematicians and scientists, later technicians and engineers, ornithologists, collectors of all kinds." You can read this sentence in the article "The Revenge of the Nerds" in brand eins 04/10. Programmers and Nutrition Are you sometimes like this: You always try to be open and not to think in clichés and you promptly get such a cliché confirmed 1:1? This only happened to me again yesterday, when I visited our outsourced software development.

IT specialists and software experts are often said to say that their eating habits do not exactly match the recommendations of the German Nutrition Society. And lo and behold, our software department is no exception, as the photo above shows. Bad eating habits > very good work But obviously this kind of nutrition is the prerequisite for very good work. Wolfram Hermle and his colleagues are currently working at full speed on Version 1.0 of the new grinding software that we want to present at GrindTec in Augsburg. I'm not allowed to tell you much, but after everything I've seen, this new grinding software opens up completely new horizons for the user (keyword: usability) and for grinding technology (keyword: functionality).

More about grinding software soon here and of course from 14 to 17 March at our stand (No. 701 in Hall 7) at the GrindTec. Curious nerds Do you know Linus Torwalds, the inventor of Linux? An ingenious programmer who has really stirred up the world of operating systems. Linus Torwalds describes himself as a nerd. The word nerd comes from English and stands for highly specialized, very intelligent eccentrics, mostly computer freaks. At 3sat I found a nice little movie about computer nerds. One of the interviewees describes the main feature of the nerd as "a curious approach to problems and fading out reality until you have solved this problem". This characterizes the attitude of our grinding software experts quite well. Nerds should also be the better lovers by the way, say the nerds...

So much for today. If you have some good nutrition tips for my software colleagues, write Wolfram Hermle.

PS: Do you know any software nerds in your company? Do they eat as healthy as you do? Send me a photo, we bring it here in the blog.
