Step drills are used if pre-drilled, pre-stamped or pre-cast holes are to be expanded. They have a similar appearance to countesinks. Unlike spiral drills, step drills have several cutting edges, which increases the cutting volume, results in better guidance and makes the hole’s concentricity more pronounced. Step drills are also known as hole cutters.
