Hip joint ball

  • Hip joint ball

The hip joint ball forms part of the hip joint. The hip joint ball comprises the femoral head and acetabulum. The hip joint connects the thigh bone with the acetabulum in the pelvic bone. The ball-shaped femoral head sits at the upper end of the thigh bone. As a ball joint, the hip joint is very flexible and absorbs the greatest strain in the human body. A healthy hip performs around 1.5 million movements a year. In terms of strain, the hip not only continually supports the body’s own weight, but has to bear several times this depending on the movement being undertaken. A ground artificial joint is used to replace parts of the hip joint which have been affected by degenerative disorders. Because implants need an extremely smooth and high-gloss surface, grinding produces an even and gentle finish.
