Acetabulum

  • Acetabulum

Acetabulum is the Latin name for a bone in the hip joint along with the femoral head. The acetabulum originates from the pelvic floor and is linked to the thigh bone (Latin: femur) by the hip joint. The acetabulum can be considered a hollow in the pelvic bone. The femoral head sits in this hollow.  Ground implants are used to replace parts of the hip joint which have been affected by degenerative disorders and are painful. Because accuracy of fit and shape are crucial in the production of replacement joints, very high standards apply to the surface finish. Using the right grinding process avoids changes to the geometry and makes possible perfectly smooth surfaces with a high-gloss finish.
