Show what's possible

Multigrind® Styx: Rotor.

Get the maximum out of what is possible on a Multigrind® high-tech grinding machine. Putting customer requests aside and proving there is more. Confidently astonish the market players and fully play the trump card. The engineers and software specialists at Haas Schleifmaschinen are fulfilling this wish.

The guidelines: It has to be large, extremely complex and, as a result, extremely precise and, of course, fully automated in the sense of Industry 4.0. The decision as to which workpiece is best suited for this proof of performance was made unanimously by the Haas specialists: “It has to be a highly complex rotor. A rotor that no one else dares to grind, ”says Ingo Maier, Head of Application Technology at Haas Schleifmaschinen GmbH in Trossingen, Germany.

But not all rotors are the same. If you want to inspire the many demanding representatives of the sector at the GrindTec, you have to come up with something very special. A proof of performance for complex compressors, vacuum pumps and hydraulic pumps. For the place where it rotates.

The Haas requirements for the rotor: As complicated as possible.

  • High-precision profile grinding for the best possible efficiency in use

  • Automatic correction of the spiral pitch by recovering the measuring data of a measuring machine

  • Deburring of the groove exit edge by brushing

Haas Multigrind® grinding machines produce rotors of almost any size - with the Multigrind® CB XL up to 3,200 millimeters in length in one piece.

In the search for ever more efficient compressor systems, the skills listed above for the high-precision production of a rotor set consisting of a male and female rotor are essential. Thanks to the innovative production, in the sense of a "closed loop", the spacing between the two rotors can be significantly reduced and the efficiency and operational safety of compressors can be significantly increased. Ingo Maier knows the relevance of this new standard in rotor production in the various industries.

Ingo Maier, from Haas Schleifmaschinen, is convinced "The harder the material - the more economical the grinding".

“A Haas Multigrind® CB can easily handle the large material removal, even of ultra-hard materials. The high-performance grinding spindle and the extremely stable machine kinematics of the Multigrind® CB mean that extreme stock removal rates can be achieved,” adds Ingo Maier.

Heavy stock removal through rough grinding and finish grinding at the same time: The result more economy and a significant increase in dimensional accuracy.

The process lives from measuring and dressing.

This outstanding grinding performance cannot be achieved without sophisticated measuring technology and dressing of the grinding Wheel from a significant degree of wear. The highest accuracy in the µm range can only be achieved if all requirements are coordinated in a collaborative process. The combination of high-precision measurement technology and intelligent software takes place in a "closed loop". The measuring machine imports real data and measurement results into the Multigrind® Horizon software and processes them extremely quickly. The results of the continuous compensation measurement of the workpieces are used for the automatic fine correction of the grinding path and implemented precisely. Even the smallest deviations from the target profile of the rotor are recognized and compensated to the µm. Because the software, workpiece and grinding machine are in constant dialogue with each other, deviations in the abrasive are eliminated in good time. This is the only way to exceed the already high precision requirements in rotor production. The quality remains constant and error-free, from the first to the hundredth workpiece.

The most important component in rotor grinding: The Multigrind® Horizon software.

This maximum interacting of hardware and software is only offered by Haas grinding machines: the unlimited freedom to simply program the rotor, which exactly corresponds to the developer's idea. The programming is done from existing DXF contours and in certain cases also with the help of a 3D model. Thanks to individual combination and parameterization, this is faster and more precise than before. Errors are recognized the moment they happen. The proactive correction helps to optimize the grinding result without large scrap and resource consumption. The user remains in full control of all programming steps and entries.

The user-friendly Multigrind®Horizon software offers maximum flexibility and endless possibilities. Thanks to the clear user interface, the user always has an overview and control over the individual process steps. A software that thinks intuitively and actively cooperates. No matter how often a grinding process is repeated, the result always remains within the tolerance range. Even if general conditions change, for example due to temperature fluctuations. The Multigrind®Horizon software optimizes the manufacturing process, ensures maximum product quality and increases competitiveness.

Visualization before production: Multigrind® Styx brings it to the pixel

Caption: Multigrind® Styx: Welcome to the age of grinding and configuration.

The new visualization software Multigrind® Styx offers super-fast 1:1-visualization and maximum control. Pixel accurate and without restrictions. The user sees the rotor data down to the smallest detail even before the Multigrind® machine starts. Multigrind® Styx visualizes any desired shape without any great effort. Even minimal programming errors are resolved in advance. No more grinding expensive blanks to iron out inaccuracies!

Conclusion: Where others rotate during chip removal, Multigrind® grinding machines run smoothly.

What has been developed here at Haas Schleifmaschinen will change future rotor production forever. Make an appointment with this complex rotor workpiece and discuss your specific challenges with Haas. We will find the solution that convinces you, we look forward to it.
