A diamond grinding bench

Haas Schleifmaschinen: Diamond grinding bench - Hand tools for diamond grinders.

Solution to our riddle: Diamond grinding bench

A few days ago, we asked what a beautiful machine it was. The two readers who commented here in the Schleifblog were very close. It is a standard diamond grinding bench, as it has been used for many decades by our grinding tool partner Haefeli in Zurich, for example. Our photo shows the machine from the top back. Bottom right you see the drive motor for the cast grinding wheels, which have been impregnated with the finest diamond powder and oil. Below left there are two spare cast wheels. On the worktop on the right you can see a kind of box with mechanical and leaded dopes to hold the diamonds for machining. In the middle is the active grinding wheel used to grind the rough diamonds. Since diamond is the hardest material at all (chemical formula: C, Mohs hardness: 10), it can only be ground with diamond. We at Haas Schleifmaschinen use diamond grinding wheels on our Multigrind® grinding machines for high-precision machining of precision tools for machining, among other things.
